This skill is one of the most useful skills that you can use inside your home. It create structured boundaries and calm behavior in your home. It's perfect for managing excited or anxious dogs and is a fundamental step in obedience training. It can also be very effective at resolving wide range of behavior problems.

Teach your dog to come with these 10 tips
I have a 10 month old husky that I take to the park regularly. He is intact. He has been going to the park for about 4 months with no issues. Just recently he got in a minor altercation with an older husky who is also intact. They are both larger huskies. My dog then stayed very close to me and started showing defensive behavior such as growling and tried to back away. The other owner stated that him coming to me was an issue. Is this true? And if so, what can I do to stop this before it becomes a real problem?
Great video. Just want to ask.. Instead of using a whistle could I replace it with calling out "HERE"?
Yes, same steps apply!
Love this training tip! Thank you. Teaching my do to be a service dog for owner visual assistance in low lighting situations.
Nice, simple instructions that work. It gave my dog and I our first training victory together. Thanks.
Bacon!
I have a 19 month old belgian malinois and we regularly play rough either with my hands or a toy but soon as i say 'break' its game over until I play bow at her or initiate play again if you can control the drive...you can control the dog.
That’s great that you can be clear with your dog. There are rarely absolutes in dog training. I made this video because I have a lot of clients that have difficulty with the ability to stop the dog when needed.
@Mydogtrainingspot They both need a word that's clear to them and I've found dropping my energy or being dead with the toy whilst saying break firmly has never blurred the lines between us.. keep going m8 great vid..
Will try this. Thanks
Have watched hundreds of other trainers on this subject, this one is the most unpretentious, most relaxed for handler and dog. Shows good examples and many within a short period.
Thanks for the support!
My family dog I just met is actually violently playful with us and idk how to stop it. She doesn’t stop for “no.” She’s 10months. How do we stop it?
Had my puppy for a month . First 3 nights were rough. 5th no more accident but whimper continues. After the 10th night ....silence... my problem im still having is i have to put her in there... she just wont go in. I tried high value treats. Toys. Many other things she just won't.
What do i do
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Better than any other empty videos. Thank you so much! I'm absolutely going to explore more videos of this channel.
Unless there's people walking behind you and you have a pitbull like mine that will act aggressively and you can't back up...
Good stuff! Does anyone know where I can buy THIS LEASE, not just a long line but this one! I like the texture. Thank tout
I use this method with my lab, but as soon as she sees the second ball she drops the first way across the yard. So I try hiding the second ball behind my back until she returns with the first ball. This works, but it hasn’t trained her to drop the ball unless she sees that second ball.
Mine will comply with this two-ball trick, but she should drop it when I tell her to. She's disobeying my command and it PISSES ME OFF! Two balls is just giving in to the situation.
This is my german sheperd / malinios rescue 100%. She is 1 ywar and 4 months. Fear agression on leash to dogs mainly. If she gets loud and lunges ... the scary thing goes away. Ugh. So she keeps doing it. I was letting her walk and sniff freely and then when a trigger would be in eye shot. I would use my (beside/heal) command and then should would be beside me as she experienced the trigger. (She has very good obedience (if focused)). You mentioned to always keep the dog beside you when out, and this might be why we haven't progressed as much. I like to take her hiking and biking/skiing where she is on a long lead of bikjoring/skijoring (pulling ahead). To address her physical/mental needs. But perhaps that is contributing to her ***Ill handle it mom, i am a leader, so ill protect us*** attitude. Which is likely true. Maybe i should put a hold on that stuff for a year or longer .. I wonder if I could have her doing that sport and when we come across a trigger, i put the leash back on her pinch, get off the bike/ski and manage her reactivity as if we were walking? I dono, its so hard with a breed that needs to RUN/work .. inorder to dump a lot of anxiety/energy. But she is also fear agressive. Which makes doing the stuff... sooooo hard... I am also glad to hear you also use a pinch collar ..me too. (Only for walks). I tried a slip lead, flat, martingal ans nothing worked. The pinch was a game changer. I will try to keep her beside me at all times moving forward... but i dont know what to do about the sports.. she loves hiking/biking/skiing. Any advice? Thanks!
man...this was so helpful...i get my GSD saturday...so exicted
Im glad! Go to my play list and check out puppy videos when you get your pup! Good luck with your pup💪
Where did you get it from
Hey. Thak you sir for opening my eyes up and helping me understand that my 6 year old Rescue black labrador is selective at the dog park about which dogs he enjoys playing with and which dogs he does not like to play with , now i know this information , i know now that if there is a dog my dog * i refer to as my son* does not like or want to play with then all i needa do is remove him from the dog park until the dog's he dont like or dont want to play with have left the dog park , this now tells me i dont know how my boy is going to be unless i give him a chance to say hi to the other dogs. 1 thing i personally do sometimes is i will have my dog on the leash in exchange for giving the other dog time to enter the dog park go sniff sniff look around once the owner removes the leash off the dog and the other dog takes 2 steps or so then i will remove the leash and let my dog run around and play
Thanks for the video, we learnt a few things. Especially the taking the dog off the leash before entering.
Great video thank you
Where did you get the long leash and what is it made of?
I used to wrestle with my brother's pitbull. She learned to immediately stop if I said "OW". I didn't really train her to do this so I'm not sure how she figured it out
Very helpful thank you
Yes! I wanna try this. I’m disabled & have a big service pup a great Pyrenees named Sugar that I hope to train to do this. Thx for the video. Makes me want two big pups now tho. lol
I have a new aussie and we play with his toys sometimes when I tell him to stop he barks, is that ok?
How do I advance on this training if there isn't a second video?
I’ve been searching UA-cam for tips on how to teach my dogs recall and this is by far the best. Thanks
I liked this off leash video, is there a 2nd or series of lessons as I would like to complete the heal training?
when giving the dog a kong or meal inside the crate, do you close the crate door or leave it open?
To pee on my mommy bed 🏊💩✊👊🤛🕳️🐾🪣❎ give me
I have stumbled upon your videos, and I must say, your instructions are remarkably lucid and comprehensible. At present, I am a proud owner of a 4-month-old Golden Retriever, and I find myself in dire need of some expert guidance in dog training. Thank you!
Thanks Tommy for sharing this video. Tried it for the first time in the yard using a slip lead with my rescue dog from Cyprus, a Hound X. & Wow, results straight away....it really works
I am commenting late, but this is one of the most helpful and unique techniques I have seen. People keep suggesting toy swapping and nailing recall, but none of that works. My dog just does not believe coming to me is more fun than keep away. I am going to try this with the long leash in my park. I tried this at home and it was promising.
I have a GSD, and figured out the 2 item method a long time ago, because it is the only way to get him to drop the ball. He is almost 6 yo, and still he won't drop the ball if he doesn't see another one in my hand lol. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.
I love rough housing with my girl Jazzy. She a 3 yo Mal and the stop word is “done”.
Your videos are a guaranteed cure for extreme insomnia
Love your method. Not like those that keep treating all time and then once no more treats dogs do not actually learn anything.
Thanks but iam disabled
I’m wondering what type of leash you suggest and how long. We currently been using a slip lead leash that is 6ft and I’m wondering if that’s the wrong kind of leash and too short of a length
In this video, I am using a leash that is 6ft long and 5/8 inch thick. The leash is attached to a star mark collar. A lot of trainers like slip leads, but I don’t. Just a personal preference

x Boo hiss x Yes, 100% dog won't jump on guests anymore. You TIED HIM UP!!! Geez, tie dog up is the fix? This is the perfect training video for you. x applause x (Sarcasm)
My problem is sometimes i want my dog to bring me his toy and sometimes i want him to take the toy so he'll leave me alone
WHERE CAN I GET MYSELF A CART LIKE THIS 😊
This worked really well with our poodle. I’ll have to try it with our labrabull. The problem is she likes to shake / squeeze the ball with her jaws and doesn’t want to stop. Edit: and yeah reaching for a dog at all for anything outside, they take off lol. They know they’re so much faster than us and keep away is a dog favorite!
My dog comes back to me but wont give the toy. Any tips?
This is pure gold ! Tried this today with mine, some really great results 😊. I'm going to keep this up for the next month & I think I'll have a much better walking dog. My trainer has been instructing me to stop, change direction etc works for a bit, but when you try walking straight ahead it all gets forgotten
Excellent thank you!
I've watched and tried a lot of techniques for this. This guy nailed it. My dog finally picked up on it immediately. Just follow his instruction.
That’s awesome! Nice work!
